Erik Olsen is a freelance journalist and filmmaker living in Los Angeles, California. Recently, he was the west coast video correspondent for Quartz, and for 10 years he was a senior video journalist for the New York Times, living in New York City and Berlin, Germany. He has produced hundreds of stories on a wide range of topics, though he often focuses on science and environmental issues. While in Europe, he covered the Ukraine crisis, Germany’s energy transition, the rise of Germany’s right wing, and the European refugee crisis. In 2018, he won the Edward R. Murrow award for feature reporting and shared the 2018 Gerland Loeb award for video. He is an avid scuba diver, kayaker, and drone pilot.
