Erich Hoyt is a research fellow with Whale and Dolphin Conservation in England. Author of 22 books, including Marine Protected Areas for Whales, Dolphins and Porpoises (2011) and Creatures of the Deep (2014), Hoyt serves as co-chair of IUCN’s Marine Mammal Protected Areas Task Force. Since 1999, he has co-directed the Far East Russia Orca Project. In 2013, he received the Mandy McMath Conservation Award from the European Cetacean Society. Photo by Moses Hoyt
